- It is important to take shades using a standardized light source with a color temperature of 5500°K and a color rendering index (CRI) of over 92.
- Colors of walls, ceiling and floor all play a role in providing the neutral environment necessary for successful shade taking.
- Supplement visual shade taking with photos.
- Send laboratory color information on opposing and adjacent teeth.
- Enlist the opinion of one or two other employees.
- Encourage the lab technician to the use same lighting conditions, such as the Venus® Shade Matching Light.
- A custom mauve card similar in color to oral tissue (included with the Venus® Shade Matching Light) can be an asset when placed behind the teeth to solve distraction and value problems.
